Little India
Right here in Newyork’s backyard exists a quaint little neighbourhood called Jackson Heights. Sometimes also known as Little India. A visit there and you actually feel like you are in some Delhi market. Chandni Chowk anyone?
Here’s some pictures of this great Indian getaway.
Did you want to buy some Jewellery?
Some nice Indian clothes?
More Jewellery?
Sona appliances?
Awesome Indian food? Thats what i go there for…
Jackson diner is famous.
And you have to checkout a famous place.
We got some papri chaat (heavenly), pakoras (nice, but also oily), and of course, chai. The chutneys were gorgeous.
Jackson Heights also has a hindi movie theater called Eagle for you bollywood buffs. Be warned though, its no AMC.
How to get there: Take the 7,E,F,R,V to Jackson Heights.

haha Shefaly…some of them actually have to be coaxed into speaking indian. My desi self finds it quite amusing as i am forever on the lookout to impress people with my awesome indian vocabulary.
Welcome to this blog Jennifer! Never been to a Payless..but now probably we’ll go check it out.

AD: I was also wondering about that last picture. Really? They sell 24 karat jewellery? What use it is apart from sitting in a jewellery box? Gold 24 karat is so soft it bends easily and is no use for making much more than rings…
May be they know something I do not. Or they are duping people…

Why didn’t you tag this post with photo feature or something like that? That will make it easier to sort the post.
Jackson Heights market certainly has a Delhi feel and so do the signboards like 24 carat.
@Shefaly: If you find our something concrete about 24 carat gold thing, do let me know. I am very interested but I have no knowldege about gold at all.

Welcome to my blog Poonam. Thanks for the suggestion..duly taken care of.

@ Poonam and @ AD:
The only form in which they can sell 24K is gold bullion. To be fair they do not say that they are selling 24K jewellery. But one could be easily misled, if one reads ‘22-24K Gold’ right below ‘Global Jewelers’, into believing they are selling 24K jewellery..

We really liked Jackson;s Diner. 24 K gold is usually to take home to India and get 22 K gold ornaments made. My mom still wears the 24K bangle. They are soft but fine as bangles I guess. One of the stores is the branch of Jewels de Paragon near Cubbon Park in Bangalore. Edison is better I feel as they have more places to walk around. But the best Punjabi food is in Gerrard Street in Toronto. Party on.

I live in Connecticut so I go there frequently for groceries (Subzi Mandi, Apna Bazar or Patel Brothers) depends where I get the parking. Whenever I go there I also buy gold coins opp. to Raj Jewels on third floor. I dont like food in Jackson heights but if I need to eat we will go to RajBhog for snacks or Kabab King(upstairs) for dinner. My kids love the lamb kababs. For Indian food I like Edison/Iselin in NJ.
