Very well said. The helplessness we feel right now is really getting to me. We can’t just sit around talking about it, hoping that someone, somewhere will act. We need to do SOMETHING, right?

Prerna: Maybe this event will serve as the, ahem, last straw, in making the government realise that they need to start preventing rather than reacting.

I just hope that our politicians wake up. They have to think! They have to give orders to the forces. I just hope that they just don’t sit, make committees and mull over the situation until the public anger subsides.

Shefaly – Thanks for the links. Indeed, its about time we started raising some awareness in the country and people started taking on more responsibilty. If the authorities arent upto the task, then maybe we need to take things into our own hands.

Prateek – I think i saw the segment you are referring to, and felt the same way. There were some strange and unknowledgeable comments about India and Indian muslims, which left a bad taste in the mouth.

Just sent this comment to Larry King Live, contradicting Christian Amanpore’s TOTALLY SLANTED STATEMENT AGAINST INDIAN HINDUS!!!!:- “Larry, on your show today, Christian Amanpore’s views have been totally slanted against Indian Hindus!! She’s talking of 2006 enquiries that didn’t have much of a meaning and is showing that Indian Muslims are disadvantaged – this is Ridiculous, to say the least! India has had multiple Prime Ministers who have been Muslim, has had a Muslim President, and has almost 70% Bollywood actors/actresses who are Muslims and have “celebrity status”. To say that Muslims are disadvantaged in this nation, shows that Christian has a narrowly focused view of those Muslims who are tethered to their fundamentalist religion and multiply relentlessly only to increase the Muslim population, and thus can not uplift themselves from the lowest levels of poverty in that country. However, she needs to see that there are enough non-Muslims who are worse off than the Muslims she is talking about. She’s lost all credibility today!!”

The difference between Americans and Indians is that Americans are American first while Indians are punjabi/ bengali etc or hindu/ muslim or baniya/ kshatriya first, Indian later as an after-thought. Recognising that we are INDIANS first and foremost is crucial to effecting lasting change.

First I was shocked, then I was sad and in tears, now I am hopping mad but also rational and calm – and therefore thinking, along similar lines as you.
