Mu-barrack Obama

Big day for America, and potentially, all mankind. America’s first black president got sworn to office today.

The still underway inauguration gala is a huge show, run at a cost of some $160 million, and witnessed by several million people live in Washington, besides many more viewers of the televised event.

Funnily enough, Obama’s presidency began with a fumble as he was being administered the oath by Justice John Roberts. Was it a rare show of nerves by the great man? Was it a last Bush-ism as the baton got passed over?

An interesting part of the Obama speech was the shoutout to Hindus, while mentioning some assorted religions. Interesting because apparently just about 0.4% (1 milion) of the american population is Hindu.

Obama’s love for hinduism goes deep.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee has announced that a Hindu priest will be among the spiritual leaders who will participate in the national prayer service to be held on January 21, the day following the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States.[link]

America is excited about this president. And for a reason.

Here’s hoping that the next four years will bring forth the change everybody is so eagerly expecting. Hopefully Obama will be able to make the world a better place to live in, like the Superman he is percieved to be.

    Hey,
Nice Post Heading….Mubarak to us all.
I was surprised to see Obama responding to some criticism in his speech and he was not very soft during that part. We assumed his approval rating would be sky rocketting and with all America going crazy over him(an example being that when he fumbled in his oath, the TV presenter blamed it on the Chief Justice! for getting him confused), even he felt the need to answer his critics!. Well that proves that even if 100 people praise you, the 2 not doing so get more attention :)

I liked that Obama did not read his speech….may be he could have revised/ratafaoed the Oath too :)

@amlistening – Thanks! Good point about not reading the speech, and yes i too noticed the tough language. Maybe it was too much, but maybe that is what the american public wants to hear from him!

@Mysoul – Giggling is such a cute word! Brings back memories of high school mischiefs! Mubarak to you too, on the new president :)

@Amlistening – Yes, as it turns out Obama being the smart person, knew everything correctly, and it was the chief justice who erred!

And the feature to edit comments comes from one of the plugins i use. It does come in handy once you post your comment and notice some mistakes you would like to correct. Happens to me many times ;)

Nowadays, all politicians use a TelePrompter to read their televised speeches, as did President Obama. Surely, you have seen them before? There are always two reading areas, made of glass, that display the projected sentences into their view from both the left and right side of the speaker.

As has already been mentioned, it was Justice Roberts who flubbed the oath. More annoying to me was the exaggerated question mark in his voice when he asked Obama at the end; “So help you God???” Always, until Roberts, that final phrase is stated in a tone of voice that is no different from the rest of the oath, and not as if a REAL question is being asked. I think it was a subtle insult, perhaps because Roberts is a rigid catholic and rabidly anti-choice, and Obama is more of a moderate, pro-choice member of a different strain of the christian church. I wanted to slap Roberts in his face.

The “tag cloud” on your site is so cool. Not as readable as a static cloud, but cooler. Where does it come from?

I have been watching the BBC “Story of India” the last two weeks. Hopefully the third installment (the fifth and sixth hours) will be on tonight or tomorrow here in Las Vegas. Do you know of a better documentary on India available to watch in English? So far, I think it might be hard to top.

Dr Lightning – Frankly speaking, i wasnt aware that there is a teleprompter in such public speeches. And yes, at the time of the oath i did think that it was Obama who fumbled, but later got to know what exactly happened. Quite a mess really!

The ‘spherical’ tag cloud on this blog comes from a wordpress plugin called – ‘WP Cumulus’. Its free and if you use the open source wordpress platform, you could add it as well.

I too watched the entire telecast of ‘The Story of India’ and was eventually impressed by the anchor’s (Michael Wood) enthusiasm and energy, though the actual content seemed a little disconnected to me.

I am not aware of other India documentaries on TV, but there are plenty of books that you can find on Amazon. Shashi Tharoor has written some good books on contemporary India, and ‘India Unbound’ by Gurcharan Das is the next book i am considering ordering!

It seems my searching paid off in that I found your enlightening post while searching for articles discussing American politics. It’s annoying to me that more websites like this aren’t ranked at the top in the searches. I can’t say that I agree with everything stated in the post but it was definitely absorbing. In the event you’re looking for a way of monetizing your blog, I’d like to make you aware of a brand new deal. I already own a number of online projects but now I’m excited about a new web venture that’s sweeping across Facebook. I only involve myself with opportunities that allow me to make “Easy Money” as my handle would suggest. This group has done an outstanding job putting it about! There’s barely any work involved, it saves money for everybody, it’s highly rewarding, it’s easier than anything out there, it saves people lots of money and best of all….it’s free for everybody! It’s the type of opportunity you could easily advertise with your website to generate additional revenue. Just go to http://alturl.com/uifbk and check it out or email me for more details. You won’t be dissappointed!
