25 Random Things

March 3, 2009
By

Here’s the famous 25 random things tag; Some about amreekandesi – the blog, and some about amreekandesi – the writer. Enjoy!

  1. The first choice for the blog name was americandesi, but it was taken. amreekandesi turned out to be so much cooler.
  2. Ultrabrown (Manish) was the inspiration for this blog. I didn’t even know about blogs before i came across UB.
  3. This blog has had three lives since it started last year. There’s usually been a burst of a few months before work catches up, then silence for a few months, followed by another rebirth. In the current life, this blog is about three months old. Hopefully the current burst will last a while.
  4. For the newer readers, amreekandesi started off on wordpresss. By a quirk of fate, Google still ranks that site higher than this one!
  5. When this blog started the idea was to write stories related to India and Indians. The original tagline  was Stories about India. Since those early days, we have diversified.
  6. Sometimes i pat myself on the back for the current tag line “India…from the eyes of a Non Resident Insider”. Its sheer genius.
  7. For the folks who cant sleep at night wondering what the hell this site’s name means – amreekan is a play on how punjabis might say ‘american’, and please tell me you know what desi means. amreekandesi is a desi in amreeka.
  8. The first big feature on amreekandesi was the coverage of the Incredible India event, held in New york in 2007. That was some fun stuff.
  9. Those elephants up there – aren’t they nifty?
  10. It is hard to make me do something i don’t want to. Except for, maybe god. He finds a way, when he is not showing one.
  11. My name (the real one)  has been mutilated in pronunciation and spelling, over and over again, for too many years now.
  12. I used to be a dork, before i became all smart and cool.
  13. I am left handed.
  14. I am not sure if i am introverted or extroverted. I am a curious mixture.
  15. I have to write a book, someday.
  16. I was born on India’s Independence day.
  17. Slumdog may have won awards by the boatload, but Chak De is my movie.
  18. I completed graduate school with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I am such a geek!
  19. Someone offer me a job as a journalist. I might just accept it.
  20. Finding 25 random things to write here is proving to be quite the challenging task.
  21. The first person to blogroll amreekandesi was prerna. Forever grateful for that act of kindness!
  22. I am a grammar geek. Many times i find myself restraining myself from pointing out grammatical errors on people’s blogs. That’s just plain rude.
  23. I have been on wall street for a bit too long now.
  24. I wish i had Chandler‘s sense of humor. But then, where will i throw the existing excess?
  25. There’s many great things coming up on this site. Subscribe to the feed if you haven’t already, and stay in the loop. Could it…get any better?

Punjabi touch can be put to so many words to make them funny – Salaad, Englaind, landan, Amreeka and so many others! I just love it!
And, yes, I do wish that I had Chandler’s sense of humor too. Although I try my best but I could never reach that level! :)

Late to comment here but please Blame Life(NOT ME) for not letting me get on for over a month now.

Thank you for letting me in on a little about you :) . Now, I already had a feeling you would have had a 4.0 GPA, dont ask me how. As for the sense of humour, thats what brought me here, you dont need Chandler to teach you how. When you write a book let me know :) .
