It’s time to start a new chapter in life
So after all these years

You may have never seen such a player
But the wait’s over India
Amreekandesi 2.0 is here!

Yes, yes, and yes. Ladies and Gentlemens, Amreekandesi is moving to India. For Good. Very Soon.

Details coming up. Stay tuned!

Hey, please tell us more…no more teasing!

  4. amreekandesi on May 23, 2009 at 9:07 am

    @Gauri - Ok. It’s A or B. Not.

@Anand - Use capitals. Don’t overuse ellipsis. Check your spellings. Improve your grammer.
Otherwise you will lose out in the troll competition…there’s some really good ones out there.

@Mahendra - I am indeed moving back to India, sometime in the coming weeks! Been planning this for a while now.

  5. Reema on May 23, 2009 at 9:11 am

hey are u coming back here permanently?

  6. amreekandesi on May 23, 2009 at 9:18 am

    @Reema - That’s the idea!

  7. gauri on May 23, 2009 at 10:25 am

Wow! If/when you get a chance, do chronicle your thought process as it came to this decision. Even if it was “We always intended to go back”, I’d like to know how you decided now would be a good time.

If you haven’t met already, neo might be able to provide a good insight.

So when do you actually do it? And where will you move to? (I don’t know why I’m getting goosebumps here, it’s quite a big decision!) Good luck, AD :)

  8. amreekandesi on May 23, 2009 at 10:43 am

@Gauri - Thanks for the wishes! I move in a couple of weeks, and will be based in Delhi.
I will definitely document all aspects of the move - the decision process, logistics, the Indian experience, etc. And i do read neoindian - he writes some fun stuff. There are some other NRI-returned-to-India themed blogs i have come across as well.

  9. Indyeah on May 23, 2009 at 11:49 am

Interesting I have to say :)
and yep I echo Gauri’s questions too :)
would love to read the why, how and the rest :)

  10. amreekandesi on May 23, 2009 at 8:41 pm

@Indyeah - And i would love to write down all that good stuff!

  11. Amit on May 23, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Wow it read so good AD, welcome back to India, we all are delighted and more to have u back here:-) Just wondering, this blog was started when u were in US itself, what was the though process when u had migrated to US from India, leaving everything behind? I am going through something pretty similar, so ur experience would definitely help, Cheers

    gauri:

neo is grrrreat! thanks for the link.

  13. Kavi on May 24, 2009 at 1:43 am

Welcome back ! I have been told by the few who returned and the many who havent been able to take that decision, that it is one of the toughest decisions to take !

And so congratulations. And welcome back. And come back soon. The rains are comming. And the mangoes will be gone.

And i worry. As to if this blog title will hold its mast !

    :)

    Welcome. Welcome !

  14. Roshni on May 24, 2009 at 3:39 am

well, now is as good a time as any to return!
I was always planning to return but when I went last time, I found an alien, pesudo-American culture there…it was disappointing! I still hope but not so hard now!!
Best of luck and good wishes to you and your family! Keep posting!

  15. R.D.B on May 24, 2009 at 10:12 am

Hmmm… so u hve finally faced n took a stand.. Itz a brave decision and I hope U have a gr8 tym bck in India with all ur family , frndz n MANGOES…:)
so hve u thought of a new Tagline yet?? how ’bout Indianfirangi ..??!!??
life has come a full circle…

And yeah I would be waiting to hear about ur decision making progress… hope it wasn’t about ur worry to instill “Indian culture” in ur kids..[pun intended]

  16. Dinesh on May 24, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Wow, that is awesome dude! So you should change ur website to desiamreekan !!! Good luck anyway.

  17. amreekandesi on May 24, 2009 at 10:18 pm

    @Amit - Thanks!

@Kavi - Thanks so much for the warm welcome. You broke my heart by saying that the mangoes are going to be gone - i will have to prepone my tickets now!

As for the blog title, i have some ideas for the tagline. But the url will remain same - the amreekan influence on this desi is permanent, so that isnt going to go anywhere soon!

@Roshni - Thanks for the wishes. I hear your point, but i suppose the pseudo-american culture might make it easier for some other people to move - they wont miss America that much!

@RDB - Thanks. I am working on a new tagline and have some ideas already. let’s see how that one shapes up :)
    hav
Life has definitely come a full circle! And no, there’s no kids to worry about yet!

@Dinesh - Thanks. desiamreekandesi, amreekandesi, its all the same. Like that wise British chap said - what’s in a name!

  18. Mysoul on May 25, 2009 at 4:20 pm

I think the mango season is done, the monsoons start in June-July and the mangoes, leave just their sweet tasting memories.

Glad you made the decision(I am feeling you are serious). We have been moving between the pendulum extremes with this decision and I have given up on the idea.
Wishing you find what you are looking for. Do continue writing(yes, I am selfish and I know what I like reading :) )

  19. Solilo on May 25, 2009 at 4:41 pm

AD, You going back for good. GOOD. :) So now what is going to be the new address? amreekareturneddesi.com

Do continue to write. Have a happy move.

  20. Simply Ridiculous on May 25, 2009 at 11:25 pm

East or west, India is the best!! But my heart is where the money is!!

  21. some body on May 26, 2009 at 6:44 am

    simply ridiculous:

nice to see someone totally unabashed about putting his mouth where his money is!

i like that (your) statement and will add it to my favourite quotes.

  22. some body on May 26, 2009 at 6:46 am

    rdb:

‘hope it wasn’t about ur worry to instill “Indian culture” in ur kids..[pun intended]’

what is wrong with a little (or big) ‘desi culture injection?’

  23. Chikki on May 26, 2009 at 11:53 am

Thats nice..Nice to see that people like to go back..!! But, wonder why??;-)

  24. The Quirky Indian on May 27, 2009 at 2:26 am

AD, I am sure you’ve thought this through, but please tell me it’s not true! (What is with me and cheesy rhymes today……wrote something similar on another blog as well!)

I am sure you have your reasons, so here’s wishing you luck…..and I truly hope that you have no reason to regret the move. But I’m not betting on it.

On that cheery note, OK Tata.

    Quirky Indian

  25. amreekandesi on May 28, 2009 at 1:32 am

@Mysoul - Please dont say that - from what i know there should be mangoes for at least one more month! Thanks for the wishes, and double thanks for the compliment.
I will certainly keep writing. Possibly write even more now that i am going to be in India in the midst of all the action.

@Solilo - I dont plan on changing the domain name. The amreekan influence over the past few years isnt going anywhere anytime soon. Instead of a desi who lives in amreeka, i am just going to be a desi who used to live in amreeka! ;) Thanks for the wishes.

@Simply Ridiculous - Well said, and like SB i appreciate the candidness. To each man his own priorities!

@Chikki - Why? In super short, because that’s where i belong!

@QI - Your optimism is refreshing. But i am going to bet on my not regretting the decision - it has been something i have wanted to do for at least a couple of years now, for a multitude of reasons.

And dont say tata! I am not going anywhere. If anything, i am just coming closer to where you are!

  26. Philip on May 28, 2009 at 4:52 am

    sach mein? congrats buddy.

i might follow this year end too :D

  27. My3 on May 28, 2009 at 8:14 am

Please do chronicle your thoughts after moving. A very close friend of ours is moving to Madras. Actually has just moved. We wish all of you the very best in life. Do put in more pictures of mangoes and everything else we miss of India. Positive thoughts and vibes will make the transition more successful.

  28. amit on May 31, 2009 at 11:09 am

    Oye! Permanently?? Why?
Is it the Amrish Puri(DDLJ) syndrome??

  29. saachi on June 4, 2009 at 1:17 am

    Dear AD,
    Great News! Welcome back.
Its super hot in Delhi now! Its like a furnace and the mangoes are not here yet.
But then you already know the Delhi weather better than me.
    Good Luck moving!

  30. Smitha on June 7, 2009 at 7:08 am

Wow! That’s wonderful! Would love to hear more about your decision:)

    All the best!

  31. Ritesh on June 9, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Hi Dude..just discovered your blog recently. You write cool and witty stuff. Did you move yet?

For some reason I have felt that you don’t complete your posts. Its so interesting to read and then your post ends right when I can’t wait to see what happens next. Is it just me?

  32. Ritesh on June 9, 2009 at 8:05 pm

Just noticed your little sketch up there ! Too cheesy and too cute! LMAO @ Mangoes !

  33. amreekandesi on June 10, 2009 at 1:11 am

@Philip - Thanks. And good luck to you with your plans!

@My3 - Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I will write more about the move as things settle down. So far its been crazy, but the mangoes are awesome! They make up for the heat and traffic woes!

@Amit - Yes it is permanent for now. You could call it the Amrish Puri syndrome. Desh ki mitti…

@Saachi - Thanks. I have been in Delhi a few days now, and the heat is truly amazing; the sweat is a constant trickle. But the mangoes, my favorite Safeda, are here, and juicy as always!

    @Smitha - Thanks :)

@Ritesh - Welcome to Amreekandesi! Thanks for the compliments.
I moved last week and currently in the process of settling down. As for not completing the posts, some of my older stories were meant to be an ongoing series, which didn’t work out how i had envisioned for lack of time, but the idea was to have small incidents covered in a single post instead of a whole long book-chapter like post.

That sketch….see i managed cheesy and cute in a single drawing. Pretty amazing ,eh? ;) (As you might have guessed, i love Mangoes. And we don’t get any Safeda mango in Newyork)
