In every generation we find people with different thinking. This is not the only new generation thinking. This is all depends on what kind of people we meet…Hope his gf will be his wife.. becaz she is also an Indian women afterall.

Don’t let anyone tell you or convince you otherwise. This is exactly how it is still in India and no it is no generalization. If anyone says so, I challenge them to go and interview a cross section and prove that at least half of them would agree (at least verbally) that girl friends are marriage material. The exceptions are far and too few to even take notice of. The youngest of young generation too hold this view, a girl friend is one and a good wife another! The college students interviewed on TV openly admit it (yes nonchalantly is the word). And my son who is still a student says with some disbelief that most of his friends subscribe to this view.

Guys, thanks for the comments.

My point was not to generalize and say that this is how everybody behaves, but what caught me by surprise was the utter nonchalance with which this person, a highly educated professional, talked of the fact that his girlfriend wasn’t good enough to be a wife.

Generalization or not, i have every right to be shocked if out of the blue i hear this exchange on a medium followed by many millions of people. These are not the values we (i) grew up with.

AD, I absolutely understand what you want to say. Young boys and girls have tried to explain this to me so many times but I couldn’t yet understand the concept of a boyfriend or girlfriend if you don’t intend to marry. It is ok if you break up after you realise that you are not compatible but the basic intent while making a boyfriend or girlfriend used to be that you are interested in marrying each other, if not then you are friends. Like you, I also think, maybe I am too old to understand this!

You guys use a stupid RJ-bhaisaab exchange to make generalizations about hundreds of millions of “youth” ??!!!
That guy could be bluffing , or he may not be a bhaisaab at all!

There are such blockheads everywhere. Maybe there are more of such jerks here, but no need to dramatize every third experience as some indication of “degeneration of values” or whatever florid rhetoric you guys use.
