Jai Ho, Once Again
Just when we thought we were tired of listening to the AR Rehman Oscar winner track from Slumdog Millionaire, we have another winner.
This time, its a group of spanish singers singing the song in full Hindi glory. Makes for some intriguing viewing, an army of singers trying to sing the song in a language they cant speak, with lyrics they don’t understand.
It’s fascinating to see how this song seems to have become such a huge international rage.
Here’s another rendition. Inmates of a Philippines prison dancing in great sync to Jai Ho. Very well choreographed!
The Pussycat Dolls have done it too, just in case you didn’t know! They even got AR Rehman to appear in their video!
Phew Ho!

is it that good?
I think that song grows on you. I wasn’t too impressed the first time I just heard it but the dance really brings it alive. Some kind of a ‘we shall overcome’ spirit. Perhaps that’s the reason for its popularity sans borders.
It suddenly occurred to me that unlike some of us in India the spanish probably understand half of the song at least. You know that bit that goes:
Ahora conmigo, tu baila para hoy
Por nuestro dia te olvidas,
los problemas lo que sean
Salud!
Baila! Baila!
What are so many young, good-lloking people doing in Philippines prisons??
It’s honestly insane what a rage the song has been. The spanish folks are actually pretty impressive singing it. Like my friend says, it’s how fascinated they must be hearing us sing Macarena!
@Usha – Exactly my thoughts. I couldnt understand the big deal about the song initially, but now i think it is actually pretty good. I guess that’s one unique aspect of AR Rehman music.
So you know Spanish? Pretty cool. All i could comprehend of that stanza was baila baila!
Good point there. I have no idea. Maybe all filipinos are good looking!
@Shivya – Yes, they do a pretty nice Hindi. Maybe Katrina Kaif could get some tips from them
Never ever expected to see A.R. Rahman in a Pussycat Dolls video…
