Is this what old age and lack of work does to veterans?
But then we also have reigning superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan doing ridiculous ads for diverse brands such as Chyawan Prash and Hair Oil.
Maybe it isn’t about lack of work. Maybe it’s all about the Moolah!

So I am principally against fairness creams. But this is cough syrup we’re talking about. Quite uncontroversial, I’d say.
And I think we need to lighten up a bit here. It’s not a big deal. They’re legends cos of their acting and musical talents. That doesn’t mean they can’t act in an ad! (which I don’t even think is that stupid — it made me giggle). And we don’t know that they’re doing it just for the money, though even if they did, nothing wrong with that. Maybe they thought it would be a fun project to do?
Let’s not put them on a pedestal and then get mad if they don’t conform to that image we built up. They’re human beings, with varied interests after all. And if money is one of them, well, I’m sure everyone can identify with that!
I second Puneet, actually! I hate fairness creams and don’t see the big deal about the ad?! And, if its the age factor that worries you about his wooing, so what?! Can’t old men have a fling too?!
Finally the ad is an imitation of ‘samne waali khidki’ so the oldness is actually appropriate!!!
You judge the ad on how it is made, what it conveys etc. Once you comment on the actors chosen for it, and their personal life situation, you cease to be looking at the ad , per se.
I think this ad is perfectly fine. It advertises stuff used across age groups. And doesnt go wild with the Mogambo stuff, given who is acting.
Contrast this with the latest Lux ads, starring Abhishek and Aishwarya. The one where he is blindfolded trying to catch her, and one where they announce “good news”. Blatant shameless opportunism, but good business sense.
Selling their privacy, to the highest bidder, since neither is great shakes histrionically. But I dont see anyone writing about it .
@Puneet @Roshni – “And I think we need to lighten up a bit here. It’s not a big deal. They’re legends cos of their acting and musical talents. That doesn’t mean they can’t act in an ad!”
I would say that the big deal about Om Puri is the kind of work he did…not really very bent on catering to the mainstream kitsch. Same for Jagjit Singh. At the fag end of their career you would expect them to maintain that dignified, graceful presence, which, sadly to say this ad does not provide.
My point is just the irony of life. They didnt get ads for more glamorous brands, but some unheard-of cough syrup. The ad itself shows them acting like frivolous teenagers. This is not what they deserve.
@Ugich – Ok. I agree. But it is hard to ignore the actors in an ad. The advertising companies dont!
AD – That’s my whole point — that it’s not upto you or me to say that they deserve this or not, cos, let’s face it, no one held a gun to their head and asked them to act in this. They did it out of choice. Maybe they thought it would be fun. Maybe they got tired of being dignified and graceful and wanted to loosen up with their next project. Maybe they’re best friends and wanted to act together in something. Who knows? I definitely don’t.
And even if they did it for money, well then that explains everything na? Also, I don’t know how much money Tomex has anyway
Regarding the Emami Fairness cream ads, i found them utterly detestable. Girl likes guy who doesnt know she exists. Gets fairness cream. Guy suddenly falls for her. (Video)
Or the cream for guys – “mard ho kar ladkiyon wali cream” What utter crap!(Video)
I havent written about them (yet) because i believe they have got a lot of coverage already. Apart from SRK probably everybody finds those ads offensive.
you chaps forgot john abraham and his garnier ad! i guess tall-dark-handsome has been replaced by short-bleached-ageing! and also, they apply the stuff on their faces onlee and it mysteriously lightens the entire body!! and jagjeet singh’s “khansi ja” ad. i suppose since he is a singer and his voice is everything to him, so the endorsement of cough syrups! shaban azmi and her “go single” varilux lens! you have a point, i wish these actors had been hired for the better known and famous brands! saif/kareena and their airtel, srk and dish tv, aamir khan and tata sky/coke, the chicks and their l’oreal/lux/dove/H&S ads. whatta way to go! mr bachhan and his borosil ad makes me cringe!
he…he..he..
ridiculous one..at least admaker should use original idea to make such ads..
If I m not wrong, this idea is from song “Mere samne wali khidki me..ek chand..”
but these are old ones, people now fed-up seeing such ads..
many of us make tv mute when such ads come..
lol a couple of of the observations folks post are kinda silly, every so often i ask myself whether they actually read the subject matter and reports before leaving your 2 cents or whether or not they barely read the subject of the post and publish the very first thing that comes to mind. regardless, it is relaxing to look over smart commentary every now and then instead of the same exact, outdated post vomit which i commonly discover on the web adios
Underwear. Overwear. Cars. Vitality potions. Dish TV. TV. Refrigerators. Tyres. Homes. Airconditioners.
And so on.
There is moolah. In every thing.

Please leave Puri and Singh alone. Hmm.

Yeah, but we don’t know that na. And my point is — who are we to judge them even if they did it for money? That’s one thing everyone needs

Though I agree that some of the advts. are annoying to the core, this one is fine. I can’t stand those fairnes cream advts. and cooking oil ones.
