A Stewardess. A Disgruntled Purser. An Angry Pilot. 100 odd Amused Passengers. One Hugely Embarrassed Airline.

The Maharaja witnessed his first in-flight Mughal-e-Azam at 30,000 feet above sea level on Saturday, as two members of the cabin crew—one male and one female—slugged it out with the pilot and co-pilot. [link]

So the air hostess screwed up in her pre flight announcement. The captain hauled her up for the mistake. The purser (who was apparently a qualified pilot but didn’t get the job) took her side. They all traded blows. The air hostess filed molestation charges against the pilot.

If this flight were a movie, we could say that this was a publicity stunt. The best publicity stunt ever.

There were unconfirmed reports that at one stage the cockpit was unmanned, as the crew was busy fighting outside. Things allegedly degenerated to the point where the captain threatened to divert the plane to Karachi, likening the situation, sources said, to a “hijack”.

And the irony of it all – this drama happened while the plane was flying over our very friendly neighbor to the west.

Ah the joys of flying Air India.

I flew Air India once from New York to Delhi. That was  to be the last time. Leaky roofs don’t really inspire the sort of confidence you are looking for while flying 10 kms above the ground.

National Carrier! National Shame?

Just when we thought we were tired of listening to the AR Rehman Oscar winner track from Slumdog Millionaire, we have another winner.

This time, its a group of spanish singers singing the song in full Hindi glory. Makes for some intriguing viewing, an army of singers trying to sing the song in a language they cant speak, with lyrics they don’t understand.

It’s fascinating to see how this song seems to have become such a huge international rage.

Here’s another rendition. Inmates of a Philippines prison dancing in great sync to Jai Ho. Very well choreographed!
