India is different to different people. To some it is a land of snake charmers and elephants lacking in basic amenities (such as potties!). Some think of India as one of the oldest cultures that used to be a lot more advanced than its contemporaries, and made great progress in science and technology. Still others get upset thinking of that irritating Indian they just talked to on the phone call to American Express.
For some, India is the land of Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Some others can not grow beyond the Gandhis. Some people think ugly Indian accent and some others think pretty Indian girls. Some Indians love India but wouldn’t live there. Ever.
And then India is home to some of the richest men in the world. One of them is building a house that costs a distasteful cool billion dollars. Of course its in the same city which has the largest slum in Asia.
Some would point to the technological accomplishments. The fact that India is a member of an elite nuclear and space club, developing it all indigenously at a fraction of the cost others have incurred. Some might mention that all this took ages and that Arjun tank is still an embarrassment after so many decades of development.
Some people think of India as a stupid piece of crap democracy where a show of strength is all it takes to bring an elected government to its knees. Peace and the common man be damned.
Some in historical times have thought that they own India and can just shut down democracy if it’s good for them. Many of their breed are still trying their best to sell India off to whoever is willing to pay.
The header image is an attempt to capture some aspects of India, and what it means for different people.

well written AD! I guess Indian is all of that. And more. It’s my home and my country and the country lives in me, just as I live in India.
