Stayin’ Alive
Folks, i am still in India and i am also still alive. So far i have not gotten into any road rage related incident, and neither have i got injured in a police lathi charge. Apologies for the long silence on this site.
A lot has been happening, and overall i am very happy to be back home. Being in India is a fun experience, but i have yet to get fully settled down, which is the reason for the lack of updates on amreekandesi.
I have a lot to share. My experiences, my impressions, my observations, my frustrations, little things that gladden the heart, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I have sweated like a water tap. I have lost four pounds. I have cursed out loud at the ridiculously idiotic drivers on the roads. I have exhausted the quota of Safeda mangoes, and moved on to the Chausa. I bought a car. I had my dear home theater system’s power supply burn out due to a faulty transformer. I used to sleep less, but these days i am sleeping lesser. I have had occasion to call up 100 (police) for the first time in my life. I travel across three states to get to work, everyday. (See how dramatic i make it sound!)
I have been in India for a month now, and have yet to have a day of complete relaxation. But i am enjoying every moment, and now it feels like i have always been here.
There is so much going on, and i cant wait to write in more detail. Don’t give up on me yet. I will have some longer (and less hastily written) posts soon.
Just hang in there! Get back when you get off the hang over!
Wow! You do make it sound exciting! Travelling 3 states to work - that does sound dramatic :)
Waiting to hear more in detail!
Wow! Incredible India, huh? :)
Settle down and take your time. It can be quite overwhelming. We’ll always be waiting.
Do make sure you dont become what you criticize about… :)
Give up !?! Not at all mate !
India is all this and more ! I am sure you know it well and true. The next mango season is still some distance away but let that not dent the writing !
:)
Settling down takes time, I should know since I am currently doing same. In Delhi, everyone I know travels long distances to work and sometimes couple of states ;)
Take your time. :)
P.S: I am sure enjoyed the mangoes. :D
Glad you’re not fleeing back :D Looking forward to lots of posts!
AD, glad to see you back. One was beginning to wonder why you disappeared….
Glad you’re settling in and liking it!
@Smitha: AD should have been a dramatist! :-) What he means is the Gurgaon-Delhi-Noida (or vice-versa) trip everyday. But that is a long drive nevertheless.
ADBhai, sorry if I made the dramatic announcement seem less dramatic! Aisa hee hoon main.
Cheers,
Quirky Indian
I hav one thing to say 4 u “sabra ka fal mitha hota hai”….. Dont worry 4 u grapes wl nt b sour…….its gr8 that u r atleast nt returning back
AD, Glad to see you again. Was wondering if India made yu forget us. :D
Welcome back after that breaK:)
glad to see that you are huffing and puffing your way around..yeah life sure as hell is never boring..
and QI is bang on about the three states :D
three states sounds so very dramatic ;)
*note to self*
use this line on unsuspecting and less knowledgeable friends*
Right here waiting for u :D
I thought India got you finally! :)
Well, just reading all that was exhausting! We do live pretty lively lives in India! :)
But don’t you miss the weather? Or was it the same where you lived in Amrika?
Thats life, AD,
why dont you start a series of at least one of the kind of experiences you are having? just one experience at one time will do.
Nice Blog there..I visited from Nikhils Blog!
i gorged on a hell lot of mangoes on my trip to India too. Had my fill for all the years i missed out on the fruit.
write more about your India experiences.
early days yet, my friend. will see what you think after 1 year, 3 months, 2 weeks and 5 days. this is how long i have been back in Apna Desh. what have i got to show for it? blood pressure 160/110, pre-diabetic, insomnia and a nervous twitch! my left hand is locked in a clench permanently while i gesture wildly with my right at drivers who jump lanes at toll gates. my throat is sore due to the arguments i have got into at parking lots at shopping centres. i gave up going to the post office in the fourth month of my stay, i now DHL even local letters. the bank employees suddenly take early lunch breaks (once at 11 am!) since they have fond memories of me displaying my overseas chequebook with its perforated edges and the indian chequebook which looks like scraps after i wrote 10 cheques. so, enjoy everything Desi while you can!!
Just keep up the good work man…you are doing really something commendable ;-)
Shedding weight
Sweating like a tap
Traveeling thru 3 states to work
Wow man..u r really working yourself out.
@Dinesh-Thanks for the advice. I just about got the hang of it.
@Smitha - hehe….the suspense was good while it lasted. Thanks QI!
@Mahendra - Thanks!
Incredible India indeed. Never fails to come up with new surprises.
@Kavi - Thanks! And lets not talk about the next mango season…the thought of no mangoes me go weak in the knees. There’s still some mangoes available for a few more days (weeks?).
@Poonam - Where did you move? And yes, with a city as large as Delhi, long commutes are a part and parcel of life.
@Shivya - Flee back! Me! I hope not ;)
@QI bhai - Its good to be back. I have missed writing, but the new life is rather engrossing - too many things and too little time!
Thanks for killing the effect though…3 state commute sounds so much more interesting than Noida-Gurgaon!
@Sridhar - Welcome to Amreekandesi! And thanks for the wishes :)
@Solilo - It’s good to see you again! Dont worry, India is only rekindling old memories, not making me forget anything.
@Indyeah - Thanks!
And feel free to use that line…just put a star on top which gives appropriate credit to the person who came up with it ;)
@Reema - Thanks!
@Amit - I miss the weather very much! I thought New york used to get hot, but here in Delhi is a whole new level of hot. Newyork could never get that hot (even with me living there ;) )
@Mampi - Welcome to Amreekandesi! I do plan to do a little series on my experiences…just need to start working on organising my thoughts/experiences into coherent units.
@Deeps - Thanks, and welcome to Amreekandesi! Hope to see you here more often :)
@Philip - :)
@MS - Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you have had exciting experiences in India in the past year. Would you like to do a guest post for amreekandesi, to share your experiences with the other readers?
@Dev - Thanks. But i am not doing much from my side. All these things are just happening to me! I used to cardio myself to exhaustion with not much results, and here i have been losing weight with hardly any exercise :)
India is great, for health at least! ;)
Welcome home buddy :) Hang in there. You are doing great from the latest post on your blog :) Traveling 3 states! Wow!
Someone help me! I want to return but worried about kids adjustment and hot weather. I am bored outside India.
