Anoop Desai - Indian American Idol
Our favorite desi singer Anoop NoopDawg Desai is out of American Idol.
This week on the show it was down to the last seven contestants, out of which two were eliminated because last week the judges used their discretionary save to bring back Matt Giraud after America had voted him out.
The axe fell on Anoop and Lil Rounds, which sucks because he sure had it in him to go a few more rounds.
Here’s a video of his last performance.
Do we think 22 year old Anoop was the best singer out of this lot? No
Do we think Anoop deserved to go at this stage? No
He may not have been the most flamboyant but he sure has a great voice, and could have gone on a little longer. Anyway, conspiracy theorists are suggesting that Matt wasn’t sent home because that would have been embarrassing for the judges after having saved him in the last episode.
It was a bumpy ride for Anoop on American Idol, starting with a virtual backdoor entry after the judges made it a thirteen contestant final instead of the regular twelve, seeing the support he had.
He got some praise along the way, but he has also got some horrid critiques from the judges, especially bad boy Simon Cowell. For the last few episodes he had been figuring in the bottom three, including last week when his performance was praised by the judges.
Looks like his support base just wasn’t big enough to carry him through. Maybe it was that bright pink sweater he wore this week.
Anoop has already declared that he isnt returning to grad school, and is going to concentrate on his music career.
Well, Anoop, you did great and you sure made lots of fans. We know that we are going to hear a lot more of you.
Maybe not American Idol. But you sure are our Indian-American Idol!
Love(Success) just don’t come easy,
no it seldom does.
when you find the perfect love(Your passion for singing),
let it fill you up.
Lights of your career will not dim for sure Aapna Desi Puttar Anoop!

“Lights of your career will not dim for sure Aapna Desi Puttar Anoop!”
Nice play there on the title of his last song! The lights are only going to get brighter for Anoop, for sure.
I haven’t been following American Idol; I only know Anoop from the news. But your post reminded me of Indian Idol a couple years ago, when a guy called Ameya Date was out. He was clearly the best, and very down to earth, I remember most of India was disappointed. And I was heartbroken :(

Somehow, reality shows and TV competitions seem repulsive to me. There is so much thats going on behind the scene thats whats happening on screen seems to be far too contrived…
American idol, Indian Idol or those dance competitions…!

Its great that he went at least up to the last 7.
Despite the fact that Anoop and ‘Lil were slammed almost every episode, they kept an admiringly good attitude for the most part
@Gauri - Even i dont typically follow American Idol. This time around, Anoop piqued my interest, and i have been watching the show. These singers are pretty awesome!
@Kavi - I too think that most reality shows are contrived and not quite very real. I just watch the few that i do as regular TV shows…the drama is fun sometimes.
On this topic, i read a report earlier that the three finalists in American Idol may have been predetermined….and i wont be surprised if that is true.
@Amit - That’s true. Anoop has already achieved a lot by going this distance…if he plans his career right and things shape up well, he can go places from here.
@Nomad - That’s true, and the professional thing to do. Besides, I suppose it is the people’s votes that matter, so as long as they appeal to the people, they can do just fine.
I haven’t been following American Idol; I only know Anoop from the news and i think you can say that he is nice singer, many people like him.
